Ben started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) in late 2009, under the tutelage of a Roy Dean affiliate school. He was 19 and despite from being from a sporting background, he was out of shape. BJJ grabbed him immediately, and he immersed himself in it; training as much as possible. Ben received his blue belt in March 2011 and his purple belt in May 2012. He was Roy Dean’s fastest promotion to purple.
It was in his time between blue and purple belt where he began training with Jeff Lawson at Ippon, mixing his time between academies. Jeff offered him the chance to teach his own regular class (twice per week) in late 2013. Teaching is something Ben have really grown into, and that he really enjoys.
After a successful result in the 2014 IBJJF Europeans (he submitted 4 people to take silver) Roy promoted him to brown belt when he visited his academy in Bend, Oregon USA May 2014.
During his Jiu Jitsu career Ben has been lucky enough to train and compete all over the world, learning from some of the all time greats. BJJ has also given him a platform to get into MMA. he recently won an amateur British title and he will be fighting again soon.
